Vintage Baby

I have a weak spot for everything vintage. I love vintage cookbooks, vintage patterns, vintage inspired clothing etc so I when I saw this reprint of a vintage pattern, I had to have it and more importantly, I had to make it. Thank goodness I actually have a baby that can wear it otherwise I’d be stuffed.

It is pretty simple but cute outfit that works great in the Miami heat. The pattern called for lining the garment but I didn’t line it. Instead, I modified it and made a casing for the elastic as opposed to sandwiching it between the outer layer and the lining. My son wears cloth diapers which are pretty thick so his diaper sticks out the suit’s leg holes but that’s OK.

The pattern is Simplicity 3508 and I made view D (sans applique), the sunsuit/romper.

Gorgeous, and baby too…I remember my Brothers wearing those with little shirts in the early Sixties. My Mother made all our clothes, quite a feat with six of us and as a seamstress, for others too! I rarely saw her sew as she sewed when we went to bed. My sisters and I, on occasion, got up on a Sunday to dress for Church with new dresses and a matching bolero waiting! She was like the Christmas Elves……
