Thinking About New Wardrobe

posted in: Sewing | 2

I have been taking a break from sewing for a little while because of the reasons I mentioned before.  This hiatus will last though December and possibly halfway into January but then I’m back with a vengeance!  I will be a busy bee as I have nothing to wear after so much weight loss (I didn’t really have much before either!)  I will be working on an entire wardrobe and I am REALLY looking forward to it.  Mind you, I will also be buying clothes because I’m just too slow and disorganized to make everything and not have to go naked!

Today it hit me that if I want to do this then I better start coming up with some ideas and put together a plan.  I did this for the PR wardrobe contest but I didn’t really give that one much thought.  I’m gonna be much pickier this time and the pieces I choose will probably be very different.  There will be a few fitted pieces since I will be able to pull it up without looking like a lumpy sausage and there will probably be a dress or two.  I realize this cannot be done in a matter for weeks and that it will take time and effort but I am REALLY looking forward to it.  In the meantime I am reading up a storm!  I’m devouring my couture books and learning as much as I can about finishes and other details.  I’m also reading (more) about fitting.

Just off the top of my head, the following are pieces I will probably be making at some point in the next few months.

As for my vintage patterns, I think I’m going to give this one a shot because I simply love the neckline of view 1.
I think this coat from La Mia Boutique might be in my future as well.  Of course, living in Miami…when would I wear it???

    Hi,

You have fantastic taste! I especially love the coat and when I am a bit more advanced sewing wise I would love to make one just like it. Is La Mia Boutique a sewing mag?

The La Mia coat? Just go ahead and make it to wear as a coat dress. Add an inside belt and some hooks and eyes, and you’re ready to go! Good luck.
