Butterick 5209 in progress

I’m making the halter version.

I have been working on a muslin for for a reprint of a vintage pattern for the last couple of days.  The pattern is Butterick 5209 and I think I finally have the fit of the bodice down but it took three muslins.  The dress is for the company’s Christmas party in less than two weeks.  The party is in the afternoon so I have to keep the dress fairly causal.  Getting the right fit for the bodice wasn’t easy but picking the fabric is even worse.  I’ve put a lot of work into it so I want to use nice fabric and make it worth my while.  I don’t want a disposable dress and fabric from Joann’s is pretty crappy.  I’m actually thinking about making a wearable muslin with Joann fabric to get the fit and construction just right and then going to Rex Fabrics to buy some…gasp…designer fabrics!  As I’ve mentioned before, this store is like the Neiman Marcus of fabric stores.  I’m prepared to face the price tags although I’d like to keep the fabric at $60 a yard or less since the dress needs 3 yards.  This all depends on how the wearable muslin looks.  Maybe I’ll just end up shopping for fabric at a less expensive store, like Ultra.

What it’s supposed to look like on a real person.
